Who we are
Rwanda Emergency Care Society (RECA) is a Rwandan non-governmental professional organization dedicated to advancing emergency care in Rwanda.
RECA brings together healthcare professionals and partners to strengthen emergency care through training, research, advocacy, and strategic collaboration.
The Society is committed to promoting accessible, quality, safe, and sustainable emergency care systems that improve outcomes for patients and communities
across Rwanda.
As a Society, RECA unites the people who make emergency care work: clinicians, educators, researchers, first responders, and partner institutions. Its purpose is not only to build individual skills, but also to strengthen the wider Emergency care system (ECS), from the community bystander who acts first, to the hospital teams who provide definitive care.
Mission
To advance emergency care medicine in Rwanda based on international standards, by developing the capacity of emergency healthcare providers through education, research, and training.
Vision
To establish a resilient and innovative emergency care system in Rwanda, ensuring accessible, high-quality, and evidence-based emergency medical services for all citizens in Rwanda.
What We Do
RECA advances emergency care in Rwanda through six areas of work:
We build the skills of emergency healthcare providers through structured courses, workshops, and continuing professional education aligned with international standards, strengthening capacity at every level from pre- hospital responders to hospital teams.
We conduct and support research that improves emergency healthcare services and strengthens evidence-based practice in Rwanda.
We advocate for policies that promote accessible, safe, and effective emergency care, and for emergency care as a national health priority.
We work to strengthen emergency care systems, protocols, and service
delivery across the country, so that care is coordinated, reliable, and
effective.
We unite emergency healthcare providers and support their growth
through mentorship, networking, and clear professional pathways.
We equip communities, good samaritans, and bystanders with the
knowledge and confidence to act in emergencies before professional help arrives.
